Habitats and Communities

We finally had some great weather to get outside and start our new Science unit on Habitats and Communities. In our observations of the playground, we found many different types of living things. From sparrows to worms, our world is truly alive! Here is a great website to learn about different types of habitats and animals.

Remember to keep practicing your multiplication table. It is so important for the coming years in math to have a good understanding of the table and how the patterns work.

Make sure that you complete your homework tonight and to double check over all of your work!

Classroom Update

Hey Everyone!

I just wanted to give some quick updates about all that is happening in Grade Four!

We have been working very hard on our TLCP Unit on Legends/Inferencing. Students have had the opportunity to look at many different legends and to also practice their inferencing skills. We have also been focused on studying the comic text form. In the coming weeks, students will be putting their knowledge of all of these skills together for their final assignment.

Multiplication has been the focus for Number Sense and Numeration. Students have been learning about single digit multiplication along with two by one digit. By having the students practice their multiplication skills not only in the classroom but at home, students will further strengthen their understanding and familiarity of the concepts.

Social Studies has been a blast! It has been great to learn about medieval times and the many events that occurred in the past. Students have been amazed with how people used to live and some of the important characters along the way. Participation has been through the roof in this unit as students are quite interested in medieval times!

That is all for now! Happy Easter!

Fractions

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to write a quick note on what we are working on in the classroom.

Currently in mathematics we are working on fractions. Students have been learning about Fractions of a Whole, Fractions of a Set, and equivalent fractions. This has been a very interesting unit to teach as the students have had some good hands out investigation with fractions.

Our newest TLCP Unit has started on Legends and Inferences. Students are learning about what makes a legend and exactly what is an inference. By having the ability to make inferences, students are able to read through text with better understanding.

Our Medieval Times unit has been a blast! We have learned about the different classes of people and how castles were designed. The students were surprised to see that many of the medieval jobs such as a princess wasn't that great!

That is all for now!

3D Shapes

Hello students! Good luck tonight on your math homework. I am sure that you will all do great. If you need a refresher on faces, edges, and vertices here is a quick note.
Faces: The flat surfaces on a shape. A cube has six faces.

Edges: The edges or straight lines that make up a 3D shape.

Vertices: Otherwise known as points. A vertex is where two or more lines meet.

This is a great website for reviewing many of the concepts we have been learning about 3D geometry. Besides the talking sea shells that might creep you out...I think you will enjoy the activities.

Jello

Hi my name is jade and I love jello. Jello is delicious there are many different flavours of jello that includes cherry, orange ,grape and blue. I don’t know what the exact flavor is but to me it tastes like water melon and blueberry. I like the name brand jello. Also when I was 4 years old the jello brand also made pudding. So I thought it was supposed to be chocolate jello but it was pudding and at that time I really didn’t like pudding. So when I got home my mom made pudding and then I took a bite and then spit it all over the place! But now I like pudding. The day I was writing this I didn’t know why it was called jello but then Mr. Frail told me that part of the name is from gelatin. I have a lot of weird moments involving jello one time I tried to eat jello with no spoon(I forgot to pack one)and it fell all over my face and clothes. There is only a single jello I don’t like its …..jello with fruit!!! Bye my name is Jade and I love jello the most!
